Course Description

This course is offered as one of the courses under the RequiredPhysical Education Programme. It aims at developing students fundamental fitness concepts and an option as a lifelong physical activity. Contents of this course include basic concepts of physical fitness, exercise safety, basic techniques of using fitness room facilities, basic principles of exercise prescription, basic knowledge and techniquesof fitness testing, basic knowledge to choose the appropriate exercise mode and design fitness programmes, nurturing positive attitudes and values toward lifelong physical activityparticipation etc.


Course Syllabus

  1. Explain the definition of health-related physical fitness and its importance to our bodies.
  2. Introduction and practice of warm-ups and stretching exercises on major muscle groups
  3. Introduction and training methods of aerobic exercises.
  4. Introduction and practice of jogging and cool down exercises
  5. Introduction of safety, rules and regulations of using fitness room
  6. Introduction and practicum of aerobic machines and resistance training equipment
  7. Explaining the concepts of body composition and weight control
  8. Introduction of the Principles of Interval Training, HIIT and Circuit Training
  9. Exercise Prescription of Cardio-respiratory Endurance and Muscular Fitness (FITT)
  10. Prevention and rehabilitation of sports injuries.
  11. Introduction of sport-related physical fitness.
  12. Introduction of the Concept of "Life Long Activity" and implementation of a Personal Exercise Prescription Programme

Course Description

This course is offered as one of the courses under the Elective Physical Education Programme. It aims to develop students’ knowledge and basic skills of martial arts bing dao, improve students’ physical fitness and motor coordination, and enhance students’ generic skills such as creative thinking, communication and team collaboration through the learning of bing dao basic movements and group practice. Contents of the course include: theory and practice of basic footwork, basic offensive techniques, basic defensive techniques, individual and two-person bing dao routines, bing dao related fitness and establishing a positive attitude towards sports participation, and so on. Bing dao performance is required as assessment at the end of the course and students can learn the basic performing knowledge and skills.

Course Description

This course is offered as one of the courses under the Required Physical Education Programme. This course aims at developing students’ fundamental skills of Basketball needed for life long participation in the sport. Contents include: footwork, passing, dribbling, shooting, defensive skill, tactics and rules of the game, etc.


Course Syllabus

  1. History of basketball, introduction of basketball court and equipment
  2. Footwork, ball sense exercise and different pass and receiving skills
  3. Dribbling ( High, Control and Cross dribble)
  4. Set shots and jump shots (one-hand and two-hand)
  5. Drive and lay-up shots
  6. Skills of blocking and rebounding
  7. Introduction of low post skills
  8. Basic passing game (Give-and-go, Penetrate & pass, Screening and Flash)
  9. Basic tactics in defensive situation (Squeeze, fight, over, slide through, help, trap and recover)
  10. Introduction of basic rules (violation & foul), referee signals and refereeing

Course Description

This course is offered as one of the courses under the Required Physical Education Programme. This course aims at developing students’ fundamental skills of Volleyball needed for life long participation in the game. Contents include: services, upper hand passes, underhand passes, blockings, jump spikes, rules and tactics of the game, nurturing positive attitudes and values toward sports participation, etc.

  1. History of volleyball and introduction of volleyball court, equipment and safety
  2. Volleyball passing skills (overhand and underhand)
  3. Volleyball serving skills (overhand and underhand)
  4. Serve receiving skills
  5. Digging, spiking and blocking skills
  6. Basic footwork
  7. Introduction of players' positions and their duties
  8. Introduction of refereeing, rules and scoring
  9. Introduction of volleyball offensive and defensive strategies and different formations
