Course Description

This course is offered as one of the courses under the Required Physical Education Programme. It aims at developing students’ knowledge, basic skills, Poomsae and self-defence techniques for Taekwondo. Practicing taekwondo can help students to achieve physical fitness (including flexibility, muscular strength, balance, etc), and protect themselves from various dangerous situations. Moreover, this course will encourage students to have lifelong participation in taekwondo. Contents of the course include: basic technique of taekwondo, etiquette of taekwondo, taekwondo related fitness and rules of taekwondo competition, etc.

2. Introduction of Taekwondo and related etiquette

3. Stretching and warm-up for taekwondo

4. Basic stance and steps

5. Punch

6. Higher, Middle, Lower Section Block

7. Slip kick, Side kick, Turning kick, Axe kick, Back kick

8. Targets kicking

9. Combination of kicks

10. Hand knife

11. Back Fist

12. Introduction of Poomsae 'Pattern I'

13. Introduction of Protective gears and Kick with Truck Protectors

14. Front side kick, front turning kick

15. Rolling side kick and Rolling turning kick

16. Faking techniques

17. Punch techniques

18. Counter attacks

19. Defensive skills

20. Free sparring practice

21. Basic tactics in free sparring

22. Rules and prohibited acts in competitions

23. Introduction of promotion system in taekwondo


Assessment

Physical Skill Tests 60% (Login to access the course note, exam standard and video demonstration)

Written Examination 20%
