Course Description

This course is offered as one of the courses under the Elective Physical Education Programme. It aims at developing students’ intermediate level skills and knowledge of table tennis needed for life long activity. Contents include: forehand drive, backhand drive, service, service return, forehand topspin, backhand slice, backhand push and inside out forehand drive, footwork, scoring, rules and tactics of the sport, nurturing positive attitudes and values toward sports participation, etc.

Course Syllabus

Teaching Content

1. Introduction to general knowledge and terminology in table tennis

2. Holding a racquet (Penhold Grip and Shakehand Grip)

3. Introduction and practice to forehand topspin

4. Backhand drive

5. Backhand slice

6. Forehand drive alternated with backhand drive

7. Backhand drive alternated with inside out forehand, and cross step forehand drive

8. Forehand topspin alternated with backhand drive

9. Forehand backspin serve

10. Introduction to doubles (rules)

11. Backhand backspin serve

12. Forehand backspin short serve

13. Forehand serve with left side spin

14. Serve and attack

15. Return serve and attack

Assessment

Physical Skill Tests 60% (Login to access the course note, exam standard and video demonstration)

Written Examination 20%

Attendence and Participation 20%
