Course Description

This course is offered as one of the courses under the Required Physical Education Programme.  This course aims at nourishing students’ interestto take squash as one of their life long sports. Contents include: the history and development of squash, equipment and venue, basic skills, rules, umpiring and tactics for playing singles. At the same time students will improve their fitness, appreciate and practise sportsmanship through participation in the course, etc.


Course Syllabus

  1. History of squash, introduction of squash court, equipment, sportswear, eye protection and safety rules
  2. The situation of local and international squash events
  3. Warm-up exercise, grips, ball sense exercise and general fitness training
  4. Footwork (ready position, front, back and half court movement)
  5. Drive ( forehand and backhand; front, back and half court; straight and crosscourt drives)
  6. Drop shot (forehand and backhand; front and half court; straight drive)
  7. Volley (forehand and backhand; half court; straight and crosscourt drives)
  8. Boast (forehand and backhand; half court)
  9. Lop Serve (forehand; left and right service boxes)
  10. Return serve
  11. Introduction of rules for single competition
  12. Tactics for Single competition

Assessment

Physical Skill Tests 60% (Login to access the course note, exam standard and video demonstration)

Written Examination 20%

Attendence and Participation 20%
