Opening of part of Sports Facilities on Sundays & Public Holidays on Trial

Sports facilities in the Chinese University campus are primarily used for teaching, student team practice and competition. Presently, some of the facilities are also opened for use by staff members at after-hours.

The Administrative Affairs Committee has decided that with effect from January 1998, some of the sports facilities will be opened on Sundays and Public Holidays for the following users on a fee-charging basis.

  1. Full-time and part-time CU students;
  2. Full-time CU staff (and their spouse and children);
  3. Alumni holding CU Credit Cards (and their spouse and children);
  4. Guests accompanied by the above eligible users (subject to a guest surcharge).

Opening Hours

From January, 1998 on all Sundays and Public Holidays (Statutory Holidays excepted) from 8 am to 6 pm.

Note: # Night-time use of tennis court is subject to a floodlit surcharge of $26/hr/court.

Guest surcharge:
Non-CU persons who are accompanied by eligible CU students, staff or alumni for the use of the above facilities are required to pay a guest surcharge of $13 per person/ per session.

Booking and Payment System

The University Sports Centre accepts advance bookings by staff and students for the use of the facilities opened on Sundays and Public Holidays through the following system:
  • Student :
    1. Eligible students can make booking by calling in person during the designated booking hours (see schedule below) or on the "On-line Sports Facilities Booking" at the University Sports Centre from the Friday preceding 7 days (1 week) before the use of the facilities. They should present their student I.D., complete a booking form, pay the required fee, and obtain a "User's Pass". "User's Pass" issued is non-refundable.
    Friday Monday Wednesday
    10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.
    9 a.m. to 11 a.m. 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

  • Staff :
    1. Eligible staff members can make booking by ringing the University Sports Centre (Tel: 2609 6093) during the designated booking hours (see schedules above) or on the "On-line Sports Facilities Booking" from preceding 7 days (1 week) before the use of the facilities. A booking number will then be assigned to the user.
    2. The staff shall subsequently present their staff I.D., pay the related fee at the University Sports Centre during the designated hours (see schedule above) and obtain a "User's Pass" corresponding to the assigned booking number. "User's Pass" issued is non-refundable.
    3. Attention: A staff who intends to cancel a booking for which the fee is NOT yet paid could do so by calling the University Sports Centre during office hours to make the cancellation or "On-line Sports Facilities Booking" at least 1 day (24 hours) before the use of the facility. Otherwise, the fee due will still be collected by the Sports Centre from the concerned staff for no show.
  • On Spot Booking and Payment System

    Walk-in students or staff who have not booked the sports facilities in advance may use the available facilities by presenting their student/ staff I.D. at the University Sports Centre and paying the required fee. They will then be issued a "User's Pass" on the spot.


    Regulations Governing the Use of Sports Facilities

    1. Each user can book only one facility at the same time for not more than two consecutive sessions.
    2. Before using the facilities, the user must present (1) student/ staff I.D. or CU Alumni Credit Card to facilitate identification, and (2) valid "User's Pass" issued by the University Sports Centre.
    3. In the event that the facilities are closed owing to bad weather, the "User's Pass" can be validated for the next booking.
    4. Users of sports facilities in the University during Sundays and Public Holidays are abide by (1) General Information, and (2) Regulations Governing the Use of Different Sports Facilities under the "Regulations Governing the Use of Sports Facilities" issued by the University Sports Centre.
